Solomon – you do NOT need to use the theme patcher if you have Vista – it is only used for XP – as stated above “In order to use this theme on Windows XP (any version), you have to download XP Theme Patcher.”

i want to download themes for my desktop
very well and usefull
good theme merci
I got the theme to work on Vista 32bit Home Professional SP1. Here is how I got mine going:
1. Download the theme .rar file. Open with WinRAR and extract all files to a new, empty directory.
2. From the directory you extracted the files, choose one of the two Theme xxx directorys: “Theme Black Start Orb” or “Theme Normal Start Orb”. I used the “Theme Black Start Orb”.
3. In the “Theme Black Start Orb” folder, copy the folder, “Qs Lightwave Aero Black Orb”. Navigate to “C:\Windows\Resources\Themes” and paste the entire, “Qs Lightwave Aero Black Orb” folder into it
4.In order to take ownership of a file, which is part of the procedures in the next step, follow the directions on this page first to get that functionality installed in a context menu:
http://www.askvg.com/add-take-ownership-option-in-file-folder-context-menu-in-windows-vista/
5.Follow the directions listed in the following link to install Vista theme patches:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/how-to-patch-windows-vista-to-enable-custom-themes-visual-styles/
Basically, you need to download the patched dll files (there are three and they are available to download from that link above). You locate the existing dll files in system32, take ownership, then rename them with a debunk file extension (i.e. from .dll to .dll.old). Paste the patched files in their place, then reboot to initialize them.
Once the files are patched, you are ready to apply the theme, which is also detailed in the previous link where you patched the dll’s. (Note: If you perform the copy and paste method of patching the files, you can skip the part about registering them from a command line)
The key part to loading the theme from the instructions above is to open the Classic Appearance properties window as instructed near the bottom. You can get to it as instructed, or, navigate back into “C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Qs Lightwave Aero Black Orb” and double-click on “Qs Lightwave Aero Black Orb.msstyles.”
Once in the Appearance properties, you should now see duplicate entries of Windows Aero. One is the core Aero theme, the other is the new theme you just installed. If one is already selected, select the new entry, click Apply and voila! If you don’t already have an Aero selected, toggle between the two to figure out which is which.
Hope that helps. Good luck!
can u someone plz guide me on how to download and make it work in my vista…plz
Gracias
i followed the steps by sven but it’s still not working. can someone pls help?
Hey everyone! I’m glad most are able to enjoy my theme.
This is not for XP! It was designed for Vista 32bit AERO…not Basic.
You don’t need a .theme file to make custom themes work in Vista. The .theme file only specifies things like wallpaper, icons, color of the theme, etc. Those are things that I believe should not be changed, since most users prefer not to change back to the way they originally had things set evertime they apply a custom theme.
Now, assuming you have your system patched correctly, All you have to do is put the individual folders (ex. Qs Lightwave Aero NUP) from the zip file into your themes folder. Most people’s themes folder is located in c:\windows\resources\themes.
Then, all you do is right click the desktop to get to your personalization window and your should see the theme listed in the window. It may be listed as “AERO”, just as the original Aero theme is listed “AERO.”. REPEAT…the theme will probably be listed as “AERO.” The picture of the theme in the personalization window will look very much like the original Aero theme, so it’s easy to miss. If you have patched correctly, it should be there…it’ll just be another AERO theme entry.
If you have patched correctly, and you have never installed a theme before, and you add this theme as per instructions, you will see TWO (2) “AERO” themes listed in your personalization window…the original Vista Aero labeled “AERO” and my theme labeled “AERO.”
To fix the labeling issue in Vista themes is another matter, requiring a hack. My old Vista set-up had about 10 custom themes installed and they were all labeled “AERO” in the personalization window. So, I had to apply a couple before getting the one I wanted. Make sense?
Hope this helps!
